L’Aiaccia is located in the heart of the Chianti just 6 kilometers from the historic market town of Gaiole and 1 kilometer from the medieval hamlet of Castagnoli in Chianti. Siena is 30 kilometers to the south and Florence about 80 kilometers to the north.
The house is most easily accessed using one of these airports:
- Florence: (80km from the house). Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci airport is served by most major European airlines and the budget airline Vueling. It is a lovely, small, recently updated airport. Its downsides are that it has no non-stop flights serving North America and getting to and from the rental car lot can be a challenge.
- Pisa: (150km from the house) While a bit further away, Aeroporto Galileo Galilei has very easy access to the Autostrada. Served by most major European airlines plus budget carriers Ryanair and Easyjet. Like Florence, it has no non-stop service to or from North America.
- Rome: (225km from the house). Aeroporto Leonardo Da Vinci – Fiumicino is the largest of the two airports serving Rome. A big advantage of flying into this airport is that it has multiple airlines providing nonstop service from the USA, Canada, and many other places. It has been recently renovated and it is exceptionally easy to pick up your rental car and get on the Autostrada. The drive to the house is about 3 1/2 hours from the airport. (It is also easy to take the high-speed train into Rome and then to Florence).
Distances from other major Italian cities:
Venice: 325km // Milan: 370km // Bologna: 159km
Florence also serves as a major train hub for Italy’s two excellent high-speed rail services, the Frecciarossa and the Italo. Service comes into Florence from Rome and Naples to the south and from Bologna, Turin, Venice and Milan to the north.
We will provide more detailed directions to the house once we know your arrival point in Italy. (Do not use Google Map directions as they will lead you to an inaccessible location nowhere near our drive.)
